16:05:41 From FROSSO PIMENIDES to All panelists : morning from London Chris, Mohammed,Martha! 16:18:34 From Mohammed Makki : https://theconversation.com/5-reasons-why-zoom-meetings-are-so-exhausting-137404 16:28:18 From Donald Bates to All panelists : re: Barnstone presentation - while there may well be costs to the University for being off-campus, there have also been significant savings in electricity, running costs, printing and photo-copies, water, data services, etc. Much of this is now being paid for by faculty, staff and students who are working from home and who fund their own electricity, heating, internet, printing, and often computer repairs or extra equipment. 16:35:22 From Deborah Ascher Barnstone to All panelists : Yes, I am well aware 16:43:39 From FROSSO PIMENIDES to All panelists : thanks to Libby and Deborah for razor sharp presentations!!! the positive outcomes are brilliantly highlighted by both. could i ask both of them to raise a debate about HOW CAN WE DEAL WITH THE NEGATIVES? TIME NEEDE FOR TEACHING,FACE TO FACE UNPLANNED ENCOUNTERS THAT CONSTITUTE THE SUCCESS OF OUR TEACHING/ LEARNING/ MEETING NEW STUFF. also Chris , what button do i press to appear on your screen? amazing talks LIBBY SND DEBORAH 16:45:50 From Chris Knapp to FROSSO PIMENIDES and all panelists : thanks Frosso - i believe your video as attendee is shut off in this webinar format 16:46:10 From Mohammed Makki to All panelists : hi panelists - please hold off on answering questions via the chat, and we will answer them in the q&a session 16:49:28 From FROSSO PIMENIDES to All panelists : Libby and Deborah, The new global connectivity and FREEDOM individuals have now reveals a lot of the weaknesses of loads of institutions. What’s your attitude? 16:50:46 From Donald Bates to All panelists : There is a great deal of focus and response to ‘making things easier’, whether that is seen as efficiency or ease of engagement, and being less stressful or less demanding. But I would suggest that the reason education is not the same as a consumer product where you “get what you ask for, what you pay for and delivers what is promised, I would contend that part of the role of education is NOT to make things easier, but to make things more challenging, more demanding of reflection, more demanding of participation and engagement and not “easier”. So the issue at stake in this uncertain shift to online or back to on-campus is not which one is easier, but which one and what aspect of any of these conditions are most effective and consequential to a critically engaged knowledge exchange - which may actually be ‘difficult’ to experience (if it is truly challenging), but relevant to the formation of knowledge and cognition. Is our concern about a return to “easier”? 16:54:02 From FROSSO PIMENIDES to All panelists : great answers 16:54:19 From Mohammed Makki to All panelists : question to Neil: some are questioning whether we need a full return to face2face after the pandemic - that we can keep some elements online - does this fit into the lobbying by big tech, and what can we do to make sure that these decisions are actually beneficial and not driven by big tech? 16:58:23 From Libby Sandar to FROSSO PIMENIDES and all panelists : Thanks Frosso! 16:59:52 From FROSSO PIMENIDES to All panelists : sorry Mohammed, on my i pad, how do i see all participants?early morning silliness here! 17:00:43 From Mohammed Makki to FROSSO PIMENIDES and all panelists : Hi frosso - because its a webinar, you can only see the panelists 17:01:08 From FROSSO PIMENIDES to All panelists : great chats all 17:03:21 From FROSSO PIMENIDES to All panelists : Neil , this ou 17:03:32 From francesco mancini to All panelists : Thank you overmuch for the really interesting session. I have to leave now. All the best 17:04:18 From Melonie Bayl-Smith to All panelists : I found teaching Prof Prac from my office that I could spontaneously pull in documents, books and all sorts of things at hand into my lectures. But I agree with Neil that blended learning is a better way to go - teaching solely online has limitations and is exhausting!!! 17:04:37 From FROSSO PIMENIDES to All panelists : Chris , Neil, the financial ethics of big institutions have to be challenged! what is our take on this? 17:06:53 From Mohammed Makki to FROSSO PIMENIDES and all panelists : Q to libby - trauma experienced by educators while teaching and the associated mental health and 'costs' surely brings in some liability to the institution? 17:07:03 From FROSSO PIMENIDES to All panelists : A quick return would be catastrophic!! 17:10:12 From Libby Sandar : Thanks everyone 17:10:38 From Chitra Pillai to All panelists : Thanks
